Research Questions
1. How do economic changes affect the work choices of young women and young men from wealthy, middling and poor families? Does the distance between classes narrow or widen? Why?
2. How does the process of getting credit and exchanging goods and cervices change? Who gets loans and from whom? What is the role of banks in the new economy?
3. How do consumption patterns of families and individuals change? Why? How do these changes affect the economic decisions of families and individuals?
4. Who has leisure time and how do they spend it? Why does New England become a center of social reform movements?
5. How are the trades or crafts affected by specialization, technology, transportation and other factors? How is apprenticeship changing? What school reforms does the new Massachusetts Commissioner of Education encourage towns in implement?
6. How do changes in technology affect work in houses, shops, and mills? How does technology change transportation? Now do changes in transportation affect people living on farms in the countryside? Villages on main transportation routes?
