Chapter 4 - Life in Colonial Times

Summary
Government and daily life in England's 13 North American colonies were shaped by European ideas and especially by English traditions. England had a limited monarchy with power shared with a law-making body called Parliament. The English Bill of Rights guaranteed citizens a number of rights. Enlightenment ideas about natural rights and separation of powers also influenced colonists. A religious revival called the "Great Awakening" was yet another force that affected many colonists. Although white colonists enjoyed freedom and opportunity in the 13 colonies, most African Americans were enslaved and had no civil rights.

Homework Policy
For
8th Grade American History

Students are expected to complete homework on time.  They should have put effort into completely answering each question.

If a student does not have a homework assignment in class or if the assignment was not completed with effort, the student will be given an assignment covering the same material.  The alternative assignment will be graded out of a 60% of the original assignment.

Students missing assignments may be assigned to Z.A.P (Zeroes Aren’t Permitted) after school from 2:30 to 3:30.

Fourth quarter, no late work will be accepted.

Students who have turned in an assignment on time with effort, including tests, but are not satisfied with their percentage can ask for additional assignments to bring up their grade.  The student is responsibility to ask to bring up a grade with an alternative assignment.

The Debt Problem

Hamilton's Financial Plan

When Hamilton took office as Secretary of Treasury, he created a financial plan that would
1. create a national bank
2. pay off war debts
3. put a tariff on imported goods that would hopefully encourage industrialization in America.
The South supported the plan after they were promised that a new capital city would be built in the South.
